Woman Nature was created deep in the concrete jungle of Manhattan, New York City, in an apartment brimming with plants. The artist, Johanna Stitt-Abow, moved to NYC in August of 2020 to pursue a modeling career. The child of creatives, Johanna’s Waldorf-imbued upbringing and education has fashioned her into a Renaissance woman with the ability to create and design anything she puts her mind to.
Johanna grew up infatuated with, and surrounded by, nature. Her art expresses the impactful manifestation of Mother Nature’s role in her life. Johanna’s nude self-portrait replicates a healthy body of earth where animals graze, and a protected body of water where sea creatures thrive, all hidden underneath her rocky chest. This vibrant piece reminds us of the love and appreciation we must hold for women and the sacred feminine, and a reminder of how we must approach nature in this day and age of perilous climate change.
The piece caught the eye of painter and supermodel Peggy Dillard-Toone. Johanna first met Peggy in 2019, just after graduating high-school.
